Yes, cruising is covered as standard with NIB plans.
Yes. If they fall within the below definition, they can be added to policies at no additional charge.
  • Your children, stepchildren, grandchildren, foster children, and children for whom you are the legal guardian, who are travelling with you on the same itinerary for the entire duration of your trip and at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued are:
    • under 25 years of age, and
    • working less than 30 hours per week.
There is no age limit on the Comprehensive plans. The International Essentials plan is only available to travellers under 70 years of age.
Yes you can by taking out a Single Trip plan in addition to the Annual Multi Trip plan to cover the extra days. If you are already overseas and need to extend your trip there is a 72-hour waiting period for all policies purchased while travelling. If you purchase while you’re travelling, you must purchase cover up to the date you will return to your home in Australia – we can’t cover you for the middle of a trip.

When you complete the traveller’s details on the quote there is a medical section to fill in. Over 40 existing medical conditions can be covered automatically online, provided all the criteria for that condition are met. For more complex medical conditions NIB have a Medical Team who can assist you.

Travel Insurance Discounts

Many Qantas staff will remember the excellent travel insurance deals that used to be available through the Qantas Staff Travel website, initially from QBE and then from NIB. Staff Travel ceased offering this travel insurance when Covid arrived and no longer have it available for Qantas staff.
